Data sources & update cadence
Upstream sources
Hotspots are ingested continuously from four satellite fire-detection programs:
| Program | Operator |
|---|---|
| FIRMS (VIIRS and MODIS) | NASA |
| GOES | NOAA |
| Sentinel-3 SLSTR FRP | Copernicus / ESA |
| Meteosat MTG FIR | EUMETSAT |
The source attribute on each hotspot identifies the detecting satellite / provider.
Clusters and satellite perimeters are computed by Deepfire from these detections.
Update cadence
| Stage | Cadence |
|---|---|
| Hotspot ingestion | ~every minute |
| Perimeter recompute | ~every 30 seconds |
| Edge cache on API responses | 60 seconds |
Net effect: data served by the API can lag upstream ingestion by roughly one to two minutes.
Polling guidance
Responses are cached for 60 seconds at the edge, so polling more often than about once per minute returns cached data and gains nothing. For most integrations, polling every 1–5 minutes is plenty.
