Static heat sources

The persistent-anomaly mask Deepfire uses to suppress false positives (flares, solar farms, industrial sites and volcanoes) as a queryable collection.

deepfire:static-heat-sources — known persistent heat and reflection sources that trigger satellite fire detections but are not wildfires. Geometry: Polygon (EPSG). Feature IDs: static-heat-sources.<id>.

Attributes

Property Type Notes
id number Feature key (surfaced as static-heat-sources.<id>)
global_id string NOAA’s identifier. Not unique: large polygons are subdivided on load
type string Oil/gas | Reflective surface | Thermal anomaly | Volcano
source string, nullable Where NOAA identified the anomaly (e.g. a satellite product)
method string, nullable How the polygon was derived
remarks string, nullable Free-text notes from NOAA (site name, operator)
year number, nullable Year the anomaly was cataloged

Examples

Everything in a bounding box (Texas):

curl -sG -H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN" \
  "https://api.deepfire.co/ogc/features/v1/collections/deepfire:static-heat-sources/items" \
  --data-urlencode "bbox=-107,26,-93,37" \
  --data-urlencode "limit=1000" \
  --data-urlencode "f=application/geo+json"

Only gas flares:

curl -sG -H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN" \
  "https://api.deepfire.co/ogc/features/v1/collections/deepfire:static-heat-sources/items" \
  --data-urlencode "filter-lang=cql2-text" \
  --data-urlencode "filter=type = 'Oil/gas'" \
  --data-urlencode "limit=1000" \
  --data-urlencode "f=application/geo+json"

Is this point on a known static source? This one is on Kīlauea; an empty features array means no:

curl -sG -H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN" \
  "https://api.deepfire.co/ogc/features/v1/collections/deepfire:static-heat-sources/items" \
  --data-urlencode "filter-lang=cql2-text" \
  --data-urlencode "filter=S_INTERSECTS(geom, POINT(-155.28 19.41))" \
  --data-urlencode "f=application/geo+json"

Source

This dataset combines several sources, including NOAA’s Global Persistent Anomalies Mask.
